The Carter House - Franklin, Tennessee

The Carter House, built in 1830 by Fountain Branch Carter, was located in the midst of the terrible Battle of Franklin, which occurred on November 30, 1864. In five hours of fighting nearly 10,000 American soldiers were killed, wounded, or captured. Tod Carter, the family's middle son, was mortally wounded during thebattle and died in the house on Dec. 2, 1864.
